Business Analyst (Data Specialist IT Data, CMDB & ServiceNow Focus)

Role summary:

Business Analysts understand and analyse user and business needs. They ensure outcomes are aligned with service vision and business strategy by contributing to the link between current and future business models and delivering to the business architecture. They challenge constructively and act as a critical friend to achieve solutions that are fit for purpose. They facilitate collaboration and lead effective communication with all stakeholders to support design, build and delivery to meet the user needs.

This role will have a particular focus on IT data management, including Configuration Management Database (CMDB) practices and ServiceNow platform experience.

Typical role responsibilities (with data specialist focus):

  • IT Data Management Lead and support activities related to the management, quality, and integrity of IT data, particularly within CMDB environments.
  • ServiceNow Expertise Utilise hands-on experience with ServiceNow, especially modules related to IT Service Management (ITSM) and CMDB, to support project delivery and process improvement.
  • Requirement gathering Drive the research and gathering of business requirements, with a focus on data and configuration management needs, determining the value of performing the activity based on the context.
  • Process modelling Employ a range of tools and techniques to map ‘As-Is’ and ‘To-Be’ business processes, including those related to data flows and ServiceNow integrations.
  • Gap Analysis Evaluate requirements against the present state (where we are) & the target state (where we want to be), identifying opportunities to develop successful business requirements needed to make the transition, with a focus on data and configuration management.
  • Impact Analysis Analyse the potential consequences of changes to IT data structures and ServiceNow processes, estimating what needs to be modified to accomplish that change.
  • Benefit Analysis Evaluate the strengths and weaknesses of identified benefits analysis and lead on identifying business-related actions that will assist with project delivery, especially those related to data quality and ServiceNow utilisation.
  • Stakeholder management and engagement Engage with business owners, technical leads, ServiceNow administrators, and users to ensure delivery of common purpose.
  • Facilitation Work with business owners and business users to identify needs, with a focus on IT data and ServiceNow requirements.
  • System Analysis Coordinate the work of systems analysis to ensure business needs are translated into solutions, particularly those involving ServiceNow and CMDB, and work with technical leads to ensure business needs are translated into technical solutions.
  • Assurance and Quality Apply recognised methodologies and audit test and quality gates, with a focus on data quality and integrity.
  • Traceability Ensure the delivery of change is made against a fully auditable process, especially for IT data and configuration items.
  • Business Improvement Coordinate with Business Improvement teams and the identification of BAU enhancements and their solutions, ensuring that defined project benefits related to IT data and ServiceNow are delivered.
  • Business Solution Design Engage with policy and strategy to ensure business systems, workflows, and processes contribute to the target operating model, with a focus on data management and ServiceNow best practices.
