Absolutely! Please don't be put off if you don't have direct experience in these roles.
Before joining HMRC, my background was in IT, and I knew very little about tax. What I quickly discovered was that HMRC provides excellent training and support, and colleagues are always willing to help. Before long, you start to understand the language, the processes, and how everything fits together.
As a teacher with 26 years of experience, you will already have many transferable skills that are highly valued in HMRC, such as communication, problem-solving, influencing, coaching others, managing workloads, and adapting to change. Those skills can be just as important as technical knowledge.
Many people join HMRC from completely different professions, so you certainly wouldn't be alone. I'd encourage you to look at the skills and behaviours required for the roles rather than focusing on job titles. You may be surprised at how much of your experience already aligns.
