I'm head of a profession and the most senior person in this subject in HMRC, therefore knowledge of the technical skills needed to work in my particular profession are essential. But it's not just those technical skills. There are many other abilities needed to lead a profession in HMRC, particularly in the areas of collaboration and innovation. We need to engage across so many different parts of the department in a way which encourages people to make the best use of our professionals. It's an ongoing challenge to raise awareness of what our professionals do, and to bring their capability to the front line, but it's rewarding when breakthroughs are made.
