I am looking to switch from a local government frontline setting to work in HMRC Counter fraud department. Any advice?

    Morning

    Great question!

People from local government frontline roles often transition successfully into HMRC Counter Fraud roles. HMRC recruits through the Government Counter Fraud Profession, which values transferable skills such as evidence gathering, decision making, working with legislation and dealing with complex customer situations.

HMRC does not require prior fraud experience for all roles, and there are entry routes including apprenticeship pathways. All vacancies are advertised on Civil Service Jobs.

A friend recently said she wasn’t sure how her skills and experience would translate into Civil Service roles. She uploaded her CV and a description of her current role into an AI tool and asked it to map her experience against Civil Service professions. She found it a really helpful way to see how her skills could transfer. Might be worth trying something similar. I thought that was quite innovative myself!
