    Prudencia O. Tax Professional Manager

I’m not sure whether the question relates specifically to HMRC or the wider Civil Service, but I can share my experience within HMRC.

I’ve been in HMRC for over 20 years and have worked across every grade, starting as an Administrative Assistant. During that time, I’ve also had the opportunity to work in a variety of areas, including Personal Tax Operations, Small Business, the High Net Worth Unit, the Fraud Investigation Service, and now Large Business. Each area has its own way of working, so the culture can feel slightly different depending on where you are.

However, one thing that has been consistent throughout my journey is the level of support from managers and the strength of colleagues. I’ve always had supportive leaders who encourage development, alongside colleagues who are willing to help, share knowledge, and work collaboratively.

I recognise that people can have different experiences, but for me, HMRC has always felt inclusive and people-focused, with a strong sense of teamwork and mutual respect. It’s this support and encouragement that has enabled me to grow throughout my career.
