Job Title: Lean Six Sigma Black Belt

Location: Manchester
Department: HMRC Security
Reports to: Harriet Gould


Role Purpose

The Lean Six Sigma Black Belt will lead process improvement initiatives within the Security Transformation Project, designed to operationalise HMRC Security’s strategic objectives. This role is critical to driving efficiency, reducing operational waste, and embedding a culture of continuous improvement across HMRC Security.


Key Responsibilities

  • Conduct end-to-end process reviews to identify inefficiencies, duplication, and delays.
  • Apply DMAIC methodology to eliminate waste and reduce variation in service delivery.
  • Design and implement standardised, efficient workflows that optimise operational performance.
  • Develop and deliver training and coaching to teams, ensuring improvements are sustained and embedded.
  • Use data-driven analysis to support decision-making and measure the impact of improvements.
  • Collaborate with stakeholders to align process changes with strategic objectives and compliance requirements.

Essential Skills & Experience

  • Certified Lean Six Sigma Black Belt with proven experience in process improvement.
  • Strong knowledge of DMAIC methodology and continuous improvement principles.
  • Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills, with ability to interpret complex data.
  • Experience in stakeholder engagement and influencing at all levels.
  • Ability to design and deliver training and coaching programmes.
  • Strong communication and facilitation skills.

Desirable

  • Experience within security or government environments.
  • Familiarity with regulatory compliance and risk management frameworks.
