There are plenty of opportunities when you look for them. Keep active in your search for new opportunities. Make sure you use your development time, and have regular conversations with your managers in you 1-2-1's. Making sure they are aware of your desire to progress. Record learning and your achievements. Apply to be part of schemes and opportunities within the Civil Service and your department or even team. All this will go towards building skills and experiences. Your managers will support you if let them know what you want to achieve, but it's down to you to go and find the opportunities to progress.

A great comprehensive answer Sally thanks, and are MyConversations and 1-2-1's encouraged throughout probation period and beyond? Learning and CPD as you hit the ground...

  • 121s continue after your probation yes, they should be happening at least quarterly in line with policy but as it is to discuss your performance/ development, if you would like these more often, you can agree this with your manager. There are also mentor programmes within HMRC to support you based on your goals
