Career path

About Sally P.

Key experience
From setting up a collect and drop ironing service whilst being a stay at home mum, to managing in retail, my career has taken lots of twists and turns. I joined the Civil Service 21 years ago, where the variety of roles I have done has been so interesting and has helped me develop and learn due to such rewarding and different experiences. The majority of my roles within the Civil Service have seen me helping vulnerable members of society. Knowing I have made a difference to individuals and communities gives such a sense of achievement.
Current position
Using a variety of platforms, my team help to promote recruitment campaigns throughout HMRC. We post on social media and job boards, and also advise the business on how to attract candidates to come and work for us. From editing and publishing blogs, or creating packs for candidates to learn more about the role, we help to promote our department as its such a great place to work with so many benefits.
Main motivation
There is a good mix of work. Sometimes I'm concentrating on editing a document, or formatting a candidate pack. But other times I can be lost down a rabbit hole of websites and articles while I research labour market insights or info on the best job boards!

Greatest achievement
Back in 2004 my friend and I decided it would be a laugh to walk 60k for the Breakthrough Breast Cancer Charity. We didn't know however, that to enter we had to raise £1.5k each first! Challenge accepted we organised a Charity Ball, complete with live music, auction, and wonderful food and copious amounts of donated booze. Target smashed we raised £7000 that night. One huge hangover later, we then had to start the training! Great memories, and a huge sense of achievement, maybe it's time I did something similar again?....
