Dear Alan, I am a court clerk. I also have a Master in law. I would like to change carrier and get into compliance at the HMRC . Which position shall I look for and apply for at HMRC? I will also need to find myself a mentor. Many thanks .
As you have a degree you can apply for the Tax Professional programme: https://www.gov.uk/guidance/tax-professional-development-programme. This is the fastest way to a Tax Compliance role as it takes you direct to Grade 7 Tax Specialist.
Please refer to the civil service jobs portal link: https://www.civilservicejobs.service.gov.uk/csr/index.cgi. Search for jobs in Customer Compliance Group.
Dear Alan ,
I had my degree 6 years ago , will it still be ok?
Thank you .
Yes, the degree is just to confirm you can study at a specific level. The interview process will see if you are suitable. Or as Bal has shared, you can come into compliance via various other job routes that might be available in HMRC.
