HMRC Interactive Designer
Location: UK Regional Centres
Day Rate: Competitive INSIDE IR35
Contract length: 6 months
HMRC are currently recruiting for an Interactive Designer on a 6 month contract.
Responsibilities
providing design leadership and hands-on interaction design for complex projects and portfolios of work, to deliver services that provide an integrated and consistent experience
gaining a deep understanding of a service area’s user needs and how to meet them
helping to plan and analyse user research and usability testing, then iterating design based on user feedback and analysis
taking complex information and processes, and making them simple to understand and use
producing design concepts for digital services, often working to tight deadlines, and working with developers to implement those concepts
building collaborative relationships and working effectively within an agile environment with colleagues and external providers, for example user researchers and business analysts
delivering high quality finished designs that meet web standards and GDS/GOV.UK design principles
ensuring that accessibility and usability are built into designs from the outset
proactively seeking new learning opportunities and look to continually improve by gaining feedback from your peers and the business
communicating credibly with a wide range of digital delivery disciplines and talent both internally and externally
being a knowledge expert in interaction design
providing leadership, mentoring and coaching within the design community
line managing more junior designers
participating in the HMRC and cross-government design and policy communities
using our prototyping tool and HTML/CSS for high-fidelity design
Essential
extensive experience designing accessible interactive digital products or services that meet user needs; you will need to show evidence of this as part of your application by including links to interaction design portfolio/examples in your personal statement
core design skills of sketching and prototyping including through prototyping tools and/or HTML and CSS; willingness to develop relevant coding skills if needed
experience planning interaction design work, including developing high level project plans for design activity
solid understanding of user research methods and practice with proven experience using metrics and user feedback to define/refine services
experience of journey mapping and needs analysis with good understanding of information design/architecture
strong ability to recognise and predict use cases and user interaction, incorporating them into designs
good understanding of web technologies and how they affect design, including accessibility
experience of working with pattern libraries and/or style guidelines
strong skills in communicating design decisions; convincing people that user needs and a user-centred approach are the right way to design products and services
experience leading workshops e.g. collaborative design sessions
