The project needs a Senior Project Manager to cover a period of supporting parental leave for the period of 01.06.26 to 31.07.26.

HMRC’s ‘Expanding Transactional Risking into VAT Project’ is a key element of HMRC’s Transformation Roadmap. It will provide intelligent data-driven nudges to taxpayers and their authorised agents as they are submitting their VAT returns through third-party software. The aim is to promote compliance, helping customers get their tax right first time and in turn closing the tax gap. The project is currently in the delivery phase with a go-live date of April 27.

The role requires proven experience in managing medium complexity IT delivery projects, including:

  • Leading / managing the project and the project team on a day-to-day basis
  • Driving and overseeing the delivery of the project to ensure that the objectives are clearly defined and achieved within the agreed time, cost and quality constraints.
  • Identifying and managing stakeholder relationships and need for senior level support.
  • Playing a key role in project governance and decision making to ensure the agreed project outputs are delivered to enable benefits to be realised. Providing reporting and engage in mechanisms that hold you, as Project Manager, to account for delivery.
  • Identifying and monitoring project risks and issues. Develop mitigating actions and escalate as appropriate. Identify and work with related projects to manage interdependencies.
  • Ensuring effective Change Management processes are in place to agree and document changes to deliverables as agreed with stakeholders.
  • Developing and maintaining the Project Plan. Identifying and setting appropriate Project Controls. Managing performance and reporting progress to sponsors.
