Sitting within the Financial Management Division within the CDIO Finance Directorate, this role is an exciting opportunity for a highly motivated, proactive finance professional, who enjoys working in a dynamic and challenging environment, to both deliver exceptional finance service and to drive and influence organisational change through effective financial management.

Deputy Finance Business Partners working in CDIO provide valuable financial advice, challenge, and offer strategic insight to Finance Business Partners, budget holders and senior decision-makers to drive value for money outcomes. With responsibility for supporting large and complex delivery areas, Deputy Finance Business Partners proactively prioritise and have the resilience to navigate high-profile and often financially challenging environments, working collaboratively to deliver financial outcomes.

This role is focussed on supporting Spending Review related change funding and investments across several cross-cutting business streams.

Person Specification

An effective Deputy Finance Business Partner will create:

  • a trusted partnership that provides a link between the business, wider finance, and other corporate functions.
  • provide value adding analysis through financial and business insight.
  • independent challenge to business decisions and provide a sounding board to senior stakeholders and customers.
  • role model the expected financial behaviours to build financial confidence and capability within the business.

Key activities performed by Deputy FBPs include:

  • working with the management accountants in facilitating and challenging budgets and forecasting.
  • analysis and communication of financial data and reports to Finance Business Partners and the relevant customers.
  • being a critical friend and independent advisor to Finance Business Partners and stakeholders.
  • "hands on" support and advice, collaborating within Financial Management Division, to enable delivery of business objectives.

Essential Criteria

  • AAT Level 4 or Part Qualified with CCAB, CIMA or equivalent and actively working towards qualification with exams scheduled
  • Recent experience in a Finance Business Partnering or Management Accountant Role.
  • Good level of knowledge of Management Accounting functions.
  • Good interpersonal skills and ability to build and maintain strong working relationships with stakeholders.
  • Good communicator, able to explain financial scenarios to senior business leaders and decision-makers.
  • Good analytical skills with the ability to transform financial data into meaningful insight for the Finance Business Partner.
  • Good IT/Excel and presentation skills.
