Hi, thanks for your question!
Dress code is casual, but smart. We can wear denim, so its pretty relaxed, but no slogans on t-shirts, or obviously nothing offensive!
🙂
brilliant thanks Sally! I have just went and go some nice new converse for starting just in black hope that's okay with some dark jeans?
HMRC does not have a strict dress code or uniform for most roles. We ask colleagues to dress appropriately for their role and working environment.
In practice, this means:
What is considered appropriate can vary depending on the role (for example, customer‑facing or office‑based), and HMRC takes a flexible and inclusive approach. If someone is representing HMRC externally, they may choose to dress a little more formally, but this is not rigidly enforced.
Our focus is on respect, professionalism, and inclusion, rather than prescribing what people must wear.
Hi Aileen,
Your new outfit sounds lovely!
Good luck when you start, and welcome!!
