We are looking for Senior Commercial Contract Managers to manage some of our key IT and professional services contracts who are conscientious about making a difference, saving taxpayers money and driving value for money.

The roles, reporting into Commercial Contract Management Leads will work to deliver end-to-end commercial contract management processes for a range of services. Our ideal candidates will have a keen eye for detail and be tenacious in negotiating with critical suppliers whilst retaining a sense of perspective and reality.

You will be managing a portfolio of contracts segmented based on risk, value and criticality, leading delivery of a portfolio of commercial contract management activities in either Professional Services or IT categories. You will be working collaboratively with pre-award colleagues and provide professional commercial leadership to business customers and HMRC colleagues.

We'll expect you to thrive on challenge, enjoy working across boundaries and to be capable of building strong effective relationships at all levels. We are looking for a resilient individual who is comfortable working at pace.

Additional information:

This post currently also attracts a non-pensionable Labour Market Supplement of £1,500 or £4,000 per annum, subject to qualifications and experience, which is in addition to base salary.

Some travel to other regional locations will be required.

Responsibilities include:
  • Creating and delivering Contract Management Strategies that fulfil business requirements and deliver value for money.
  • Providing advice in the development and amendment to Service Level Agreements and Key Performance Indicators and track performance against contractual obligations.
  • Actively managing contracts, ensuring performance standards are achieved, reducing risk and maximising benefit realisation. Leading or supporting in-life negotiations.
  • Supporting business areas delivering benefits and savings to central government, including open book contract management.
  • Advising the business on the impact of commercial/contract commitments and acting as an escalation route for the business on supplier performance issues, engaging legal advice as necessary.
  • Supporting business owners to develop and maintain successful, long term, strategic relationships with our suppliers.
  • Leading, managing and motivating across teams responsible for managing a range of contracts.
  • Leading or supporting contract assurance and undertaking supply chain risk management.
Essential Criteria:
  • Excellent stakeholder management skills with the ability to engage at all levels.
  • Strong commercial acumen with significant experience of managing multiple commercial contracts.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Extensive experience and understanding of commercial risk, and the ability to identify, mitigate and escalate as appropriate.
  • Significant experience of working within a contract management or related environment in a large complex organisation.
  • Proven ability to deliver commercial operations through effective client management and to develop rapport with colleagues and contacts, utilising negotiating and influencing skills to produce a positive outcome.
  • CIPS Level 4 (Minimum) working towards MCIPS Level 5 & 6 or equivalent experience at Associate Commercial Specialist level of the GCF People Standards.
Desirable Criteria:
  • Experience in managing strategic and/or high value contracts.
  • Supply chain management.
  • Basic commercial contract law.

Your application will be evaluated against GCF People Standards for the Profession at Associate Commercial Lead grade, focussing on your experience.
