Key experience
I started with DWP as a contact centre adviser nearly 20 years ago. I didn't think at the time I'd still be a Civil Servant now! Over the years I've had various opportunities including temporary roles in different areas of the business such as project management, communications, business analyst and personal assistant. These opportunities have allowed me to widen my knowledge and skills to gain various promotions over the years. I came over to HMRC as an HO in recruitment delivery, then to my current role in recruitment marketing. The Civil Service is very supportive and committed to your development. If you are looking, or not looking as was my case, for a great career then consider joining us. My career is an example of how you can move between Civil Service departments and progress through grades should that be your ambition.
Current position
I work mainly on HMRC's bulk recruitment campaigns which are for customer service and customer compliance roles. We support these campaigns in many ways; we provide supporting products, advertise jobs on various job boards, support specific campaigns with social content, source blogs to link to campaigns, perhaps provide a video showing what a day is like in the job and any other ways we can think of to help get the right people into these roles. We also help with some of our more specialist campaigns, for example in our digital services. We are always looking for innovative ways of showing what HMRC is like as an employer, and why prospective candidates should consider joining us!
Main motivation

My team work across HMRC recruitment. We have our bulk campaigns in customer service and customer compliance but we can be asked to support any recruitment campaign in any area of HMRC. This means no two days are really the same. We have an offering of how we can support campaigns with products and promotion on job boards and social channels. We are always looking at what else we can do, how we can improve and adapt to changing needs and environments. We engage with many different audiences, choosing the best way to communicate with these to explain what it's like to work at HMRC.
